It might be interesting to meet some of you in person if you come up. Lots of old guns still floating around up here. I might even have one or two left after that tragic boating accident. BTW, I’m going fishing for King Salmon this coming weekend. Feeder Kings near Homer. They are here to feed all winter before heading south to the West Coast this summer. It’s great getting out in the winter and fishing for them. Best eating Kings ever since they aren’t here to spawn. No sperm or eggs in them. They are all fattened up.
Shoot low boys. They're riding Shetland Ponies.
Old Logger,
My son is up in your neck of the woods, Anchorage to be precise. I visited with him a year or two back and we fished (I was fishin’ he was catchin’) the Kenai. He had much greater success this past Fall but has yet to share any of his spoil. To be fare to him, it’s a challenge to send back home, The Old Dominion. Anyways, I might give you a holler next time he has me up.

My boss’ son is stationed in Anchorage, recently transferred and getting settled in. He’s in the market for a gun to walk about with and his hunting rifles were shipped last week. Boss will be headed up there when he works out the logistics. King salmon sounds great. Most of what I get here in Texas is farm-raised but I must admit I enjoy it whenever I can. If I had a bucket list an Alaska trip would be on it. My shooting buddy used to fly into Anchorage a few decades ago and he stumbled onto an awesome deal on an old Colt. It rode home with him in the cockpit of a jumbo jet. Those were the days.
Hope your fishing trip goes well next weekend. Do you can your catch or freeze it? I had an uncle in OR years ago and he would take his catch to a cannery near Coos Bay. I like canned salmon but I absolutely love It grilled fresh or previously frozen.
Never had moose, last time I was close to one freezer bags were the furthest thing from my mind. Getting one from field to freezer looks like a lot of work and I’d have to give a lot of it away. Good problem to have, I guess.

Don’t eat farmed fish.
I freeze most of my Salmon, but do smoke and can (in jars) some of it.
Been eating wild meat all my life. Deer, Bear, Elk, Caribou, Goat, Sheep….all of it. Sure do like the moose. They are huge. We have a system for getting them from the woods into the truck, and home. Usually hang them in one piece in the shop and butcher them there ourselves.
So far we have been limiting out on the Winter Kings. Sunday shouldn’t be any different. One fillet will go right on the grill that night. Hopefully accompanied by some Tanner Crab.

I was ice fishing a little while back at a friends Place Near Matheson Ontario, We had Moose roast Fri nite pulled black bear on Sat, nite, fresh speckled trout and Walleye from the Black River on Sun nite with local picked blueberries (pie) for desert. Oh ya also had wild turkey and venison sandwiches for lunch. I hated to go home to My boring old roast beef and chicken dinners. I had a sister lived in Terrace British Columbia, on the Skenna River, when We went to visit We’de have wild salmon and White Pine mushrooms or run out to Prince Rupert for halibut, I prefer the salmon. Old Logger You’re a lucky fella to be where You are, I hope You say thank You periodically.

Been to Alaska 3 times but I don’t know when or if I might be back. I like the area around Ketchikan. It’s so green and the inside passage is like fishing on a mountain lake. No open water to deal with. The halibut are not as big but I did catch an 89 lb one. Besides the 3 or 4 types of salmon there is a lot of bottom fish and dolly varden in the streams. See black bears every day and bald eagles are every where. I have had moose on more than one occasion. It has a sweet taste as if it was marinated with something. In Ketchikan there is a wonderful place to zip line through the trees. We had bears below us. Farthest north I’ve been is Fairbanks. I love Alaska.
