OfflineFellows. I posted a tip that was expensive for me to learn. I own no stock in the product I recommend. I have no financial interest in the product. I figured I was doing this group a favor? Then Bert sends me a massage that he wants me to post before and after photo’s of the results. Like I am selling something or lying. I don’t care if you try it or not, but it should be you that make that decision.. He probably won’t post this message either? He is impugning my integrity. I fought for this country. I am not a liar. It cost me to belong to this forum. It was not free. You members never have to worry about me telling you anything positive or anything at all, I really question belonging to an organization that is afraid their members will be swindled by a jar of stock restore.

Sorry, but you have grossly misinterpreted the intent of my reply to your posted message, and you have apparently taken unnecessary umbrage. My suggestion for you is to not take everything so serious.

OnlineLin Speed has been around quite a while, seems to be linseed oil with very efficient dryers. I’d like to see the pics too but I only do oil finish repairs on rare occasion and haven’t tried this product yet.

OfflineAs Mike says, Lin-Speed has been around at least as far back as the Nineteen Fifties. I recall Jack O’Connor referring to it in one of his columns on stock finishing. We know “boiled” linseed oil is linseed oil with metallic dryers added to cut down the time between coats of an oil finish. Lin-Speed was advertised as the gunsmith’s friend for that reason.

I’m glad this topic came up. Several years ago I was given a box of “gun stuff” from the wife of a man who had died back in the 1980s. In the box were a few things that I had never seen before… Linspeed being one of them. I wondered if any of the stuff was still being made. Maybe some may recognize this stuff.

OfflineI have used Lin-Speed for 50+ years. I get it from Brownells ( much more than $1.98) I hand rub 3 or 4 coats. This leave a shiny finish which I don’t want. I lightly steel wool last coat 0000. Wipe down and wax with plain old JOHNSONS paste wax & leaves the exact finish I like. This is not for metal.
Further, I will not tolerate nasty remarks from mean old Bert.

OfflineI’m old enough to remember buying and using those small glass jars of Linspeed (by Geo Brothers?)
Never fully “remedied” the way to STOP the metal jar cap from “glueing” itself to the glass!
After pouring a TINY amount into a Dixie cup for use, I’d carefully wipe the threaded portion of both glass and top . . . .and sometimes the two would STILL glue themselves together! (Once I even reverted to coating the threads with GREASE!)
Also . . .I’d be sure to INVERT the jar for storage after the first usage! . . . Air in a “partial” jar was a no-no!
Nowadays, it’s BLO (many coats) for me!
