Just received my C & R FFL. Was surprised that there was no basic information package with it. I understand the record keeping required going forward but am confused with my existing collection. Am I required to document all of the guns I obtained prior to getting my FFL?

No, You are not required to log anyrhing that you did not acquire with your Type-03 FFL. If you dispose of a gun using your FFL, then you log it at that time.
