OfflineI have been approached by a collector who has a 25-20 marked Model 1892 that clearly is chambered for 32 WCF. I am no gunsmith by any measure so let me ask. Ca a 25-20 bore be increased to 32 WCF caliber with being relined?

OfflineBert, if I have the groove diameters right [.313 – .257], would reboring/rifling from .25 to .32 remove most pits from a corroded 25WCF barrel?
EDIT: From .250 bore to .300 bore would only take .050 from the lands.
I suppose it would depend on the depth of corrosion but .050 isn’t a lot of metal removed. I thought you might have seen it done.
I’m lucky to have a non-corrosive Era 92 but several .25s I’ve seen recently are gruesome.

OfflineZeb, In my limited knowledge, rifling isn’t that deep. Often its .003 to a generous .005. Old lands would perhaps challenge the process as a boring device may catch irregularly with the old lands in place, but I am guessing there. I have never known anyone to measure depths of pits, tho. Tim

OfflineIt would take a small roach trained to use a miniature depth micrometer. They seem to have the intelligence but too much attitude.
