On rifles the distended magazine spring should extend 6″ beyond the end of the tube. On carbines, this length should be 4″. Since rifles have 24″ magazines and carbines 20″ magazines, I’d measure the length of the half magazine tube and project the difference.

Standard Rifles have a 26-inch magazine.
