I have a breech bolt for an 1892. I’m not sure what caliber of gun it came from, but it’s suspected to be from a 44 WCF. I know there’s typically a difference between the Large and Small caliber 1892 parts.

1. Is there a difference in the bolt itself?

2. How can I tell which bolt I have?

I’m also asking because if I look to buy a replacement, how do I know which one I’m getting?

Just look at the bolt face.  The face is machined for either .44/.38 cal. or .25/.32 cal. cases.  RDB

92-Bolt-Face-001.JPGImage Enlarger The 25/32 bolt is on the left, 44/38 on the right.  you can use a cartridge case to see if it fits the bolt face.  Hope this helps.

I did check it with a 44-40 and it seems to fit.

What if I was buying one and the seller doesn’t know the caliber? Is there an easy dimension that would distinguish one from the other?
