If you are a member of Cody Museum and also a member of WACA, you get 5 serial # searches from Cody plus 15 additional s/n searches for being a WACA member. The s/n search gives you the same info that a letter would. That is if this is what is referred to in the item you saw.

Captain: If you send me your email address, I can send you a copy of a serial number search if you haven’t done one before.
ThanX for the kind offers, Paul! I’m member of both Cody and WACA and have ordered letters before. I’ve not had the experience though with just the “SNA search only” that seems to be the only item I can get from Cody on the higher number 1894 models.
I’ve got a 94 short rifle, SN 876023 with a 20″ barrel/full magazine and a nice 94 SRC with double set trigger w a 902327 SN…just trying to get factory letter info on both but, if I’m reading their SN range list correctly, no factory letter is available to SNs after 353999, only serial number application date.

For what it’s worth, I’ve confirmed answers with Jesse at Cody…’SNA Only’ for these two 94s is all I will be able to get.
Also I should note, it’s easy to confuse “serial number search” with ‘serial number application”, however they are two distinctly different activities within Cody Records Office. The former is the informal verbal/note advising any info of record based upon a given serial number and can include information on configuration, factory “after sale” work, etc, as available..it is not the ‘Cody Letter’ but will contain the same information, as available, informally. The latter is a Cody document that simply gives “…the date on which serial numbers were applied. There is often overlap between the Warehouse and SNA ledgers.”
The above is certainly not new info to those experienced with Cody Records Office but perhaps it will help explain differences to those unexperienced with same…

I would really like to see pictures of the SRC with the set trigger!

Bert,
Did you see this one on GB? It’s not an 1898 gun though…

I see that Cody Firearms Records Office allows 15 free ‘SNA Only’ letters to WACA members. I haven’t yet discovered any links to such offer on the letter ordering site. Any other members already done this online and have a link or info on how you did it?
Beautiful rifle, and the tang sight with barrel blank dresses it up for a classic look! Very nice, indeed!

With pleasure…and here I thought the 20″ short rifle would catch your attention…

It does interest me, but the Model 1894 Short Rifles with a 20″ barrel are much more common than a SRC with a set trigger. Please post the information and pictures of your Short Rifle (so that I can add it to the survey).

Roger that. Is the survey for all 1894 rifles and carbines? I ask because I may have already given you the requested info on the 38 from the collection…

My surveys cover all Model 1894/94 serial numbers from 354000 – 2600011.
Thanks,

I have 22 in that range on record. To avoid repeating, can you check the following three numbers, grabbed at random? If you have these, it should be safe to assume that I’ve already given you the rest, since I haven’t added any new purchases for a few years (since my “chemo event”, which helps explain what I can’t recall if I’ve already sent these).

I did not have the set trigger SRC, and I do not have 469957 or 1068257. Odds are that I do not have most of you serial numbers recorded.

Send me an email… I will send you an e-copy of the current survey so that you can see what information I am seeking.
