OfflineThis is an extremely rare Model 70 in .22 Hornet from the personal collection of Gene Shuey, Master Gunsmith. It is essentially brand new, in 99.9% condition, having had only 20-25 rounds through it. The only “defect” is the butt plate, which shows slight wear from standing in a safe for 80+ years. 24” barrel. A truly magnificent firearm. $4295

OfflineOlddog211,
Since you didn’t answer my PM, I’ll ask you here.
The what looks like 1939 mfg.(#27178), Winchester M-70, in the .22 Hornet, is a little hard to find, but I don’t know if I would call it, “Extremely Rare”!
Why didn’t you show pictures of the Butt Plate?
To me it looks like Master Gun Smith, Gene Shuey, had the gun redone! The Rifle looks too good to be true! IMO! The blue on the barrel looks off to me. In you’re second picture, the wood looks right and proud at the top of the butt stock, but at the bottom, the metal butt plate sticks down below the wood! The front handling marks on the forarm, makes me rate this from the pictures as a 95-98%, refinished gun, from what I can see in the pictures. Most people, aren’t skilled enough, to know what a barrel would look like, with a thousand rounds through it, let alone 1000 rds.
There’s a lot more model 70 experts on this forum, and I’m sure they’ll be along to take a peak, and give they’re expert advice and opinions.
I think you have a beautiful professionally restored M-70, in .22 Hornet! IMHO!
It’s one of those that has to be held and verified in person, to make sure it’s all original. IMO!
