Hello yes the topic is an abbreviated book name….
I am here once again to see about buying a book! I am not expecting a miracle but it never hurts to ask. I would like to buy a copy of
The Winchester Model 1876 Centennial Rifle” by Herb Houze
Used is fine. I have searched the internet to the best of my non technical abilities and found a couple of copies very expensive to super expensive. Regardless I know this is not a cheap book to be had. So if you have one you would part with please PM with the condition and price.
when I was looking for another Pirkle book to give as a gift, someone was kind enough to point me in the right direction. That would work as well.
thank you for your time.

If you search the The Winchester Model 1876 Centennial Rifle” by Herb Houze you can find a few for sale but they are going for about $260.

Contact Randy Duckett and let him know you are looking for one. He comes across a lot of stuff.
I am simply amazed at the prices that the Winchester reference books are bringing these days! I now have a small fortune in just reference books alone! Having acquired nearly all of my sizeable library in years past, I never paid that much $$ for each book. I have paid up to $300 for an original Winchester catalog though.

Not just the book on the Model 1876 which is increasing in popularity and price – I remember when the guns were hard to sell. Does anyone know if enough research has been done of the records to know how many 76’s were made in deluxe configuration with a case hardened frame and in 50 caliber?

Bert-
Prices have increased remarkably in the last several years but many are still a good value. I suppose it’s time to create an inventory list for reference books just in case.

I have an inventory list, but I do need to update it as I have added several books to my library since I last updated it. Between the approximately (500) auction catalogs, the (50) or so Winchester catalogs, and all of the many reference books I have, it might compress the springs on my old Dodge a few inches or so if I loaded them all up for a trip

Go easy on that old truck Bert – if I recall – it has a lot of miles on it!

Bert-
The “Quick Reference” section of my little library is about 20 books and the less-used books and coffee table books number a few less so I’m quite aways behind you and many other serious collectors. I have avoided going down the catalog rabbit hole for the most part; only auction catalogs are from when they sold an item from my collection. I did finally start reading Canfield’s Combat Shotguns book, thank you. Much more interesting and useful than I expected.
Steve-
I’ve seen that old red Dodge and in my opinion the engine is barely broken in. Clutch has been upgraded and the chassis is in good shape. “Hot shot” operators used to get 500-700 thousand miles out of a rig like his but Bert’s old red truck has had a much easier life than the typical hot shot truck. It would probably ride much better with several hundred books in the back but loading and unloading them sounds like a lot of work.

It has a few miles on it now… and (18) annual round-trips to Cody, WY! I just hit 380K miles on the odometer on my drive down to Oregon last week.
