Though some of these are obviously “cut down,” others look too well finished to be home-made. They might be gunsmith-made, but I’m wondering if some sight or parts-maker was also producing them.
Clarence, your hunch is correct, King offered that style of sight blank in their catalogs as the “Ornate #1 Sight Blank”.

Thanks, Jeff, was just about to post that I found another maker, Pacific Gun Sight Co., offering one. Called simply a #1, while the more common style is #2. Possible of course that one or the other co. is making them for both.
Yep, good insight because the plain King blank is called the #2 also.

Here is a current reproduction that Brownells sells.
Like the King blank the period Lyman and Marbles are marked Lyman or Marbles. The Winchester’s are not marked and they never made a fancy one. I would like to see a picture of the Pacific Gunsite Co. blank since Stroebel’s book does not show one. This company was formed in the early 1920’s. The King No. 2 is the regular non fancy blank.

Looks just like the others, Chuck. Might see a diff with it in your hand but not in the catalog illustration. These pre-war Pacific catalogs contain many sights from other makers, inc. scopes.
I saw this one on eBay today. I don’t have a dog in the fight, just listing for information.
I call myself a collector as it sounds better than hoarder

I’m interested in what the members have to say about this blank being factory original.
