I planned to replace the recoil pad for my 97.  The stock was cut down, jewel installed in the bottom of the pistol grip and the stock was pretty rough sanded to the recoil pad.  I thought I’d look for a different stock.  The fore end is in good shape.  There’s zero blue left, don’t need anything nice, dents dings and finish do not matter. Just want all the wood there.  Since I’m installing a pad, a cut down will work.

Thanks,

Adam

Not all Model 97 butt stocks are the same… what is the serial number on your gun?  Is it a Standard (Field) grade or something different.

I think it’s a field grade. 30” barrel. Sn 831449. I posted about in the shotguns tab a while back.  1925 vintage.  Someone must have used a course rasp to fit the pad it had on it.

It is a 1928 production standard grade gun.  The correct butt stock will have a plain pistol grip, a 13.75″ LOP and have a black hard rubber butt plate.

Thanks Paul.  I hadn’t looked there yet.  Wanted to see if someone had a poor condition for a collector, but still usable since I’m planning to put a butt pad on it any way.  The stocks on eBay all have cracks.  I think I could do a correct repair on an original stock, but after I looked at the link, they look good.  I might just do that and save a bunch of time.  I’m also thinking about refinishing the metal.
