I am looking for a 14″ trapper carb. mod. 94. It must be in exc. plus cond. and would prefer one that,s letterable. I will ,[reasonably] purchase outright or would trade for deluxe 94, I have several. Also I,m searching for a 21″, 95 variant 94 carb. Any leads would be appreciated.

Walter,
Of the (19) that were made in the letterable range, I can not say how many have survived. Of the (18) that I have surveyed in the 354000 – 1090560 serial number range… all of them are extant (otherwise they would not be in my research survey). If I were to guess on the first (19) that were made, I would say that at least half of them still exist, and quite possibly, all of them still exist.

Bert,
I’m pretty sure you have my 14″ trapper in your survey. It’s 25-35 caliber, with error patent date. How many 14″ 25-35 trappers do you have in your survey?
Thanks,
Al
Due to the interest in this topic, I would like to ask all of you to contact me if you own a Model 1894/94 Trapper Carbine. In my current survey of the Trapper Carbines, I have found a total of 298 that are outside of the letterable range, and I am relatively certain that at least another 1,600 (or more) of them exist.
The ARMAX survey documented 409 Trappers in the first 75,075 Carbines made (keep in mind that the majority of the first 353,999 Model 1894s made were Rifles). The actual production ratio (or %), was just a mere .005448 which is slightly more than one-half of one percent. In my survey of serial numbers 354000 – 1000000 (May 1907 – March 1927), I have found that Carbines made up 56.5% of the production, which correlates to an extrapolated total of 364,991. If the Trapper Carbine production remained constant from October 1894 through March 1927, that would indicate that approximately 1,988 of them were made in the years 1907 – 1927. Certainly a believable total, especially in lieu of the fact that I have already found 202 of them thus far in the 354000 – 1000000 serial range. In the time period after March 1927 through August 1942 (serial numbers 1000001 – 1343183), I have surveyed 97 additional Trapper Carbines. Trapper production slowed down very drastically when the NFA of 1934 was enacted, with just a few 16-inch Trappers made before Winchester ceased making them.

Bert I have the following guns in my collection a 14″ o.b. rifle #321470 in 30 cal. f.m. cres. butt. in exc. original cond. but is pretty much a brown patina finish, a 15″ s.r.c. #745309 in 25-35 cal., that has been properly restored with98% finish remaining, a 16″ s.r.c. #408412 in 32-40 cal.. This gun is in90%+ orig. cond. All 3 guns are correct and have the correct hardware. The 15 s.r.c. has a different blade in the front site , it is wider at the base and narrow at the top. I love these little guns and usually try to buy them when they come available. Henry Al You know I,m still interested in your 14″ s.r.c. You have My #. Henry

Henry,
Thanks for the new data. I have added both of your Trapper SRCs to the survey. Interestingly enough, your 25-35 WCF Trapper slide right in between two others in the same caliber;
743637 15-inch
745309 15-inch
746707 14-inch

Bert,
You can add these 2 ’94 trappers to your survey.
933642- 959128 Both are standard with 15 inch barrels and 30WCF.
Also, BATF list 321470 as a carbine factory fitted with a 14 inch OCT. barrel.
Walter Blake
Walter,
Thanks… I had serial number 933642 listed already, but 959128 is a new entry.

I have moved this to the Winchester Research Survey forum. It can be found here – https://winchestercollector.org/forum/winchester-research-survey-discussion/model-189494-trapper-survey/#p47821

Bert,
Great survey. I sure would like to find sn 746707 15″ 30 caliber, to go with my 25-35 14″ with the same serial number.
Can you email me a copy in excel? [email protected]
Thanks,
Al

heck of a list, nice job. What I find interesting is the amount of NI steel barrels, even those in BP chamberings. What’s the chances of e-mail the excel pice to [email protected]

Mike,
The early Trappers in 32-40 and 38-55 had standard barrels… I had to go back to my original document and check. I have edited the table I posted, and will send you and Al a copy of my Excel spreadsheet.
