Hi Jim-
Do you know for sure that it has not been rechambered to K hornet? Only reason I ask is b/c many of them were rechambered and NOT marked on the barrel. One that has not been rechambered is worth more than one that has. I once had a ’48 Model 70 22 Hornet that had no external sign whatsoever of being rechambered, but I guarantee that if you shot it (I did) you’d extract perfectly fire formed K Hornet brass!!!
It’s an interesting barrel, in that relatively few Hornet barrels were made with the brazed-in ramps and Style 3C (one-piece) roll marking. I believe that Winchester stopped making the specialized Hornet action parts in 1950 (at least before ’53) and used up their older barrels (Style 3A marked with integral forged front sight ramp) before they made any new ones. So ’56 barrels 22 Hornet like yours are not common.
