OfflineI haven’t shipped ammo in several years… from the rumors I’ve heard, UPS has become a nightmare… could some of the more enlightened members assist my feeble mind on this subject? I’m looking to sell some older stuff off before it gets too heavy. No .577 in my stash, for that you will need to go see Bert.

Ben you can’t beat UPS!
The USPS is absolutely undependable. Fedex is ok but seems to always miss delivery dates by a day or 2. In my experience of both buying and selling, UPS is in a league of their own! Just my opinion but can’t imagine anyone has had an overall good experience with the USPS!

OfflineDon’t ship it. Shoot it! Zeb has made a study of the new regs and will have some pointers when he comes along. As you know USPS is not a viable option.

OfflineUSPS Postal Regulations make mailing live ammo a serious federal crime.
UPS will ship it Ground Service as long as you meet their Limited Quantity requirements – look them up online, but to ship a couple boxes you just need a heavy duty carton and put a limited quantity sticker on it. The biggest PITA is UPS is closing all their Customer Service Centers where you could drop off the box. Can’t use a UPS Store. You have to call or get on the Web and pay about $20 to have a driver pick it up.More if you want same day.
Now, having said that, if you open and use a free online MyUPS account, it works very smoothly and I’ve done it several times and am about to do it again with some 405 WCF I just sold.
Considering the cost of gas and the increasing value of my remaining time in this life, twenty bucks to avoid an unpleasant couple of hours in traffic seems a fair price.

Very good info. I have friends that have an account but I didn’t realize how easy it was to open an account.

OfflineI’ll charge him $475. I’d charge you, $550. just to be ornery. If he declines, I MAY let you have it for his price. It’s not .577 It is late 1890’s / early 1900’s… might even fit in one of those single shooters of yours… shipping isn’t included. If you both want it, I’m willing to split it in the middle and send each of you half… 🙂

OfflineI can’t believe I wasn’t included in this! After all it IS 45-90. Maybe I don’t have enough street cred!
I can concur with Bill about the PITA factor with shipping ammo. Usps WILL NOT take it, period. Fed-x had me jump thru hoops and then when it took it to the exact drop off office I was told to go to, the lady behind the counter would not take it! that was a total waste of time and gas money that day. UPS is the only shipper now as far as I can tell and they are terrible. To the point I still have ammo I was trying to ship to Bill himself I have been unable to moveout. I will tell you this, I know people have shipped it and have been very tight lipped what is contained in the package, and I know it has bit some people in the ass. Like some antique stuff I bought and never got here! So my advise is do it right or you could be out alot of money!

OfflineFor anyone wanting to ship sporting ammunition via UPS Ground service, here is the label to put on at least two sides of your box. It replaces the old “ORMD” label.

OfflineMike… I’ll let you shoot it after you pay for it. -Ben
Tempting proposition but it could be even more expensive and my only 45-90 (1874 C. Sharps) prefers bullets somewhat heavier and I’d have to hunt down a suitable 1885 or 1886 to do these old rounds justice. I like the idea but my fantasies are much more affordable than reality. I like the loading info on the box!

I do happen to have another box… slight damage to bottom, overall, not as appealing… has 5 Winchester original rounds and 7, ahem, Remington rounds… would be fine for display…. Haven’t come up with a price yet… I’m still thinkin’
