Henry, The price of good 73 carbines have come down in the last couple years. I have been watching Rock Island lately because a late friends guns have been going thru it, 7 or 8k will get you a nice first model. These are the guns that won the West. If something like that is of interest to you PM me and I can give you more details. I just bought a nice 66 src of his thru RIA, I could not have bought it from my friend when he was alive for the same money, bargain. T/R
Chuck, My late friend has a nice 1st model 73src s/n 14505 that will be going thru RIA. Watch for it, they have been hammering guns fast. I remember it as 60% with no flaws, all original and honest. I used to think it was worth 14k but they sold a slightly lesser carbine of his in May for half that. (s/n14549) It would well bought for 9k. I know his guns, I was there when he bought them. T/R
Just my two cents worth, but in my opinion an early 2nd model carbine with a thumb print dust cover would be more rare than most first model carbines. I’ve collected 73’s for many years and I’ve owned many 1st model carbines, both early and late numbers, but I’ve only had one 2nd model carbine with thumb print dust cover.
I see these guns going thru the auction houses however I personally don’t buy or sell at auction. I still like to talk and negotiate with the owner and the one who knows the gun. Just Sayin’ However I’m still looking for that ’73 s.r.c. in 80%+ cond.

I don’t do the auction sites as I will not pay for someone to buy or sell a gun for Me, I can do that myself. Plus I don’t have faith in their descriptions
I totally agree. Some dealer friends make a trusted connection at the Auction House and have a good discussion on the phone about the gun before the sale. I still won’t do that.

Just trying to find out if the price mentioned was with juice or not….not an editorial on buying from auction houses or not. That was not the question.

Biill, On the May third auction lot 107 was my friends gun, it went for $6900 with the juice. S/N 14549, look it up on line. His other carbine has not yet come up on Rock Island and is nicer, s/n 14505. It would be well bought for $9000 with or without the juice! T/R
Thanks for answering that for us. Some Auction houses list the hammer price and others list the hammer price including the juice. I am still waiting to see the other one listed. I know where a 3rd Model is but the dealer wants $18,000, no buyers premium. Might go a little less especially if paid with cash or check.

Chuck,
I have an 1873 SRC 1st model made in 1876. Receiver retains 80% blue turning plum. Impressed thumbprint dustcover in excellent mechanical condition. Barrel & magazine retain 90% strong even blue throughout. Stocks excellent with a few handling marks. Rods in the stock. Action is crisp. Bore is bright & shiny with strong rifling and considered a 9 on a scale of 10. Cody Letter. Rare gun in it’s overall condition. It’s a serious gun for a serious collector.
PM me if your interested.
