OfflineSelling Two Full & Sealed Boxes of 12 Rounds Of Vintage Frankford Arsenal 45 Schofield Cartridges Dated 1878. Manufactured at the Frankford Arsenal in 1878, these 12-round boxes of .45 caliber revolver ammunition were adopted for use in both the Colt Model 1873 and the Smith & Wesson Model 1875 Schofield. With the introduction of the Schofield Revolver in 1875, this shorter cartridge could be used in both the Colt and Schofield (with its shorter cylinder) and thus simplified the process of issuing ammunition. Both boxes are in excellent condition and still sealed with the pull strings still attached. Labels are complete and fully legible. I took photos of all sides of the boxes. Asking $500 shipped for each box or $900 shipped for both boxes. Please send me a PM if interested.
Thanks,
Don

OfflineHi Chuck,
It’s my understanding that these are for the .45 caliber Smith & Wesson Schofield which is a bit shorter than the Colt .45, but could be used in both the Schofield and the Colt. Here’s what AI says:
Here’s another good link explaining that these catridges were redesigned in 1874 to fit in the .45 S&W Schofield as well as the Colt .45.
