Don’t think it spent much time in anyone’s duck-blind.

It has been in my safe for 40 years – may have taken some ducks before that. It was certainly well taken care of. I also have a pretty decent case hardened Model 1887 which I will keep. The Model 1901 does not fit my downsizing plan to keep one of each model made in the 19th century. In fact, this will be the last Winchester I sell. If I make it to 75, I will re-evaluate regarding the rest of them.

Mike – these have always been hard to find, especially with condition. I would like to have a checkered Model 1887. I don’t really think that many collectors are interested in them. I bet Bert likes them – John Browning design you know!

Burt,

That’s one fine Model 1901 shotgun!  The only thing going against it is that it’s not an antique.  I would be interested except I can’t have everything I want and am in the process of acquiring a nice Model 1894 short rifle.

You have a very good eye!

What is the chamber length? Is ammo available? Are reloading components available?

If you search you can find everything you need.  If you are not an experienced loader I would recommend you buy “light” loads, maybe even black powder.  The case length is probably 2-7/8″.

Here’s an example that highlights to me, the fine deal Burt is offering on his M1901:

And another one Rock Island had, very similar condition but I don’t know the final value price:

Burt –

This one would have been a nice addition for you – you could have had a matched pair of a standard grade and a deluxe grade in similar condition:

Wow – gorgeous wood on the Morphy gun – best one I ever saw. Whoever bought it certainly stepped up to the plate for it. Based on the price paid for this one I certainly think my $3500 price for a nice original example in standard grade is reasonable. When the time comes, I hate the thought of selling my guns at auction, but the good stuff sure seems to bring a lot of money.
