Hello all, I traded for a Winchester model 1892 SRC that someone put a wildcat barrel on. It blows the 25-20 cartridge out to look like a 32-20. Unknown barrel maker, so I suspect someone playing with reloads. At any rate, It is not something I would keep. I would like to restore it back to a real winchester. Only need a Carbine round barrel in either caliber/ 25-20 or 32-20.
If you have one laying around you woul sell, PM me.
thanks
Andy

Thanks, that was what I was hoping for. Do they restore the winchester data on the side of the barrel? Have you personally ordered from them?

Good morning Andy,
The style and location of the barrel address stamp will differ depending on what the serial number of your carbine is. If you tell me the number I can give you the correct style for that SN range.
Were you at the HGCA meeting last night?

Did not make the meeting. Trying to get ready for the Bastrop Premier Show. Did I miss anything important? I figured they talked about the one day show this Saturday. I took the 92 to shooting range and loaded it with 25-20. It blew the case out to almost match a 32-20, but the 25 caliber bullet is the right size. I may could play with reloads and stumble on the recipe, just not really desirable.
serial no is 489670

Andy,
Based on my survey data the rifle was most likely a 25-20 WCF originally. The vast majority of rifles in this SN range have the caliber stamp on the left side and the barrel address on the top of the barrel. Does your upper tang have the small “MOD 1892” stamped across it?
I will miss the Bastrop show. Tied up in Houston all weekend with social engagements. And no you did not miss anything important at the meeting. I did bring some nice 1894’s to show. The guys seemed to like them.

It has the small Mod 1892 on the tang. I believe it was originally a 25-20 also.
thanks for the research on this. Now I need to decide which way to go. 25-20 is sweet shooting.

Andy,
I personally have not ordered one but I have seen a couple first hand. They look good externally. I have not heard any range reports after installation. They do put the Winchester markings on the barrels. If it will be the correct font/style for the serial # range you have I don’t know. You will have to contact them. That’s about all I can give you for info. Your chances of running down an original 25-20 carbine barrel with the proper lettering is pretty slim.

Thanks again

Good morning Andy,
You might try contacting this GB seller about the possibility that he has a usable barrel that will work for you. He parts out quite a few 1892’s so one would think that he isn’t using the barrels to stake his tomato plants. He seems to have LOTS of various receivers for sale. https://www.gunbroker.com/Item/813238462
Hope this helps
