I’ve always heard C-H makes (made?) some really good stuff. Never actually had a set in hand, tho.
Mike
Are you talking about ch4d? Have several, they are ok. Now that RCBS has closed it’s custom shop and only sells the more common dies CH4D is about the only place that will make hard to find dies. If they don’t have it in stock don’t be surprised to wait up to a year. I ordered a 22 WCF die set in October and was told I should get it by August????? Luckily I know how to use other sets I have to do every thing but fire form the hornet brass. I plan to fire form it in the rifle.
Yes, the C-H dies are very good although a bit pricey for new dies. I have an RCBS set on the way (thanks Erin!).

Good deal! I’m a big fan of RCBS Cowboy dies in the BP cartridges I load as well as 32WS and a few others. I’ve been told they’re the same as their other dies but on the ones I can compare I’ll just have to agree to disagree in some cases. They seem to be especially cast bullet friendly. The sizer dies only minimally resize the brass and the necks on bottleneck cases are worked with a separate die. Their standard 44WCF dies are probably pretty much the same as the Cowboy dies but I like the finish.
I was thinking of the CH4D dies, thought some folks call them C-H. Maybe it’s an old name. I think they’ll make just about anything in the way of loading and swaging dies if they have the dimensions…for a price.

I prefer Redding dies when available. RCBS is my second choice. CH4D is my last resort. All work but some are just made to a higher degree of quality.
If you order from CH4D 2 things, Dave is a great guy to talk to but details are not his specialty, place orders with the other guy. Ask if the parts are in stock, take what you can get, and expect a very long wait for the rest to be made. If you have other die sets use a de-capper from another set, you can expand with a round tapered punch, only full length size if you have to, bullets can be seated with other seaters or most any thing that can rigged in the loading press, if the round will chamber fire form when you shoot it and only neck size if you have to. If you read books on reloading from the 1910’s through the 1950’s you would be surprised what was and can be done.

There was a time when I thought Redding dies were better than RCBS but I think the gap has been narrowed a bit in the last several years. Last few sets I needed weren’t readily available from Redding so I don’t have an example of current production. There was a time, not long ago, when Redding dies were worth the small difference over RCBS. It seems any time I buy anything other than RCBS or Redding for single-stage loading I’ve regretted it. I’d considered buying the OP’s offering just for product research but decided against it. At the moment I don’t have anything chambered in 44WCF but with any luck that’s a temporary shortcoming.
I am not super picky about dies since I do not do that much reloading anymore but I tend to prefer RCBS for several reasons. While they may not the highest quality, their customer service is the best, bar none. Multiple times they have replaced components on my older dies with no hesitation and no questions asked.
Also, the bulk of my dies are RCBS so I like to keep everything consistent if possible. I do have some odds and ends such as Hornady dies, C-H / CH4D and Redding dies and have no problem with them but the boxes just don’t stack as neatly with my RCBS dies 😉
Like Mike, I just wanted to get the .44 dies to play with since I have never loaded that caliber.

Hey Guys,
I just put several lots of dies( RCBS ) in Little Johns Auction in September. A lot of other reloading equipment too.
I’m selling off a lot of stuff for a friend, and some of the lots many be of interest to you. I’m hoping this post is going to Chuck and Mike.
I have not put up any brass yet, but have 25-35, 32-40, 44-40 and more. Quite frankly, I have no idea as to what their worth, except the rarity of a few. Also, 38 Spl., 357, 6.5 x 52R and more.
Was going over to LJ’s next week. They usually pay cash for it, but reading this old thread made me want to see if any of you are interested.
