No dog in this hunt, stumbled across it on GB if anyone is interested. I have no idea of the value–good deal, over priced??

Erin,
He is asking $2 per piece… a bit on the high side, especially considering it is mixed. One thing to look out for on used 25-20 brass is whether or not it is black powder brass or smokeless powder brass, as they take different sized primers. If you look closely at the picture I have attached, the leftmost row of cartridges are black powder (larger diameter primer), while the row immediately to the right of it are smokeless powder (smaller diameter primers).

Bert,I knew it was scarce brass to locate and nothing more.
Does the smokeless version uses small rifle primers? Were the black powder version a special size or would a large pistol work?

The smokeless case do use small rifle primers. I do not know what the black powder cases use, as I have avoided using them.

Primers changed based upon manufacture date. The earliest 1893 ones were #2-1/2. In 1905 it was changed to #2. 1911 was #2-1/2 again. 1914 down to #1’s. Stayed #1 until 1929 then changed to #116. All this data is from Dan Shuey’s book. Unfortunately there are no diameter notations. I believe that the original primers were brass.
If someone wants some loaded ammo Little John’s Auction has some for sale. Contact Aiden for pricing and see if they will ship. I know that when they auction ammo they must have to ship it.
