I just received an 1886 ELW with a Marbles tang with a W12 code. Is this the correct sight for an 86?IMG_0677.JPGImage EnlargerIMG_0676.JPGImage EnlargerIMG_0675.JPGImage Enlarger

The W12 is for 95 in the smokeless cartridges W11 would BP The correct one for 86 would be W4 and W4 1/2 for 33WCF

Thanks CJ. I didn’t think it was correct, so I had to ask. I am not an enthusiast of 95’s and didn’t realize the spacing on the tangs was the same.

Winchester used the same spacing on all of the many different lever action models and slide action rifle models, and on the Single Shot.

Winchester did not drill and tap the upper tangs on the model 1895 for tang sights due to the long throw of the bolt.  Marbles came out with the flexible tang sight to accommodate, but one would have to drill and tap their own hole in the upper tang (makes me cringe…).

You are welcome, I don’t have that sight, but do have the 4 1/2 for the 33wcf 86 and appear close in dimensions and could be used on the 86 as the previous owner of yours did, as Deerhunter stated 95s are not drilled and I wouldn’t drill one of my 95s for it, Arthur Pirkle states in his  book that some were ordered with the sight.
