This thread got me thinking about some I have with a 21 on them. I realized I have several, all that letter as shown. I also have another 33 cal. lettered ’86 w/ a 38 specifically called out. I agree with several of the posts above that these 21/38 sights are very appealing, especially if they letter. I’m drawn to them and its a big factor in why these three guns will likely stay in the collection for quite some time.

Enablers! Threads like this one have me stopping dead in my tracks when I see a Winchester with a 21 sight. I love tang sights, receiver sights are a necessary (but very useful) evil for rifles D&T’d to accommodate them. I think the 21 is the sight I need for shooting a lever gun of suitable caliber anything much over 100 yards. I use barrel sights with great difficulty these days. Youth wasted on the young, indeed!

yep – the climbin lyman sight just looks goods – have always been popular and I think they always will be – agree with Gary it is desirable to have the sight letter to the gun.

Here’s a couple of better photos of the 95 with the Lyman. You never see the 95’s discussed much here on the Forum – I would have thought the recent new book would have generated some greater interest – good 95’s are not that easy to find – that deluxe burl wood on these old Winchester’s is a thing of beauty – at least in my opinion.

I have a deluxe 95 in 35 WCF Ser. #38909 that shipped about 10 days after yours on Order No. 189621. No peep sight though.
Very, very nice 95 Chuck – Over the years collectors have tucked these away. The one thing that always stood out on that 95 of mine over the years was the sling swivels (screw eyes), which as you can see letter.

My preference is for a Lyman 21 /38. I really like the appearance of them on a rifle. Also easier to adjust. I do like tang sights as well (my eyes seem to shoot better with them), but find they can get a bit in the way / are a bit awkward for my hand. That said, I wouldn’t drill and tap a gun for a 21/38 unless it wasn’t a rough “shooter” already I guess. Even then, not sure I would. At least with the tang sights, you can just throw it on the gun.Matt
Have to agree with Matt. I’m a purist & also not sure I can even drill & tap a shooter.
