I saw a factory letter for an 1876 rifle that shipped April 1884 that had “Platina front and rear sights” listed. What are platina sights? I understand platina may be an alloy of platinum and other metals.
Does anyone know more about platina sights? I didn’t see anything listed in the catalog that mentions platina. Possibly another name for Express front and rear sites which first show up in the November 1887 catalog? The Sight Book mentions the 34A sight with platina inlaid line.

I’ve never heard of that sight. If you got the copy of the ledger entry it would be interesting to see if they interpreted the hand writing correctly. After reading many of them I can say some words take some time to decipher and some not at all if its lightly written.

Yes is, but there must be something wrong with my computer, because it’s telling me the current bid is $665!!!
That’s about 3 times what they usually sell for–they are NOT rare.
