I have a 94 rifle in 38-55 (1908.) It shoots about 6″ high at 25yds. I am shooting 255 gr. lead reloads. Someone has filed the front sight (21A) to a point and it is about .170″ from the bbl. to the top of the sight bead. I have adjusted the rear (Marbles) sight down to as low as I can, both the V insert and the notches.
I would like to replace the front sight with another 21A. But what height would I need to get me shooting on at 100yds?
As the rifle is now it has plenty of up adjustment.
Thanks
Ed
Ed, May I suggest an experiment for you? Try epoxy and adhere a brass wire section on top of your modified sight. See if that gives you a height that works well for you. If it does, then you have a good height to try to use in obtaining a replacement. If it doesn’t work out, heat the epoxy and odds are you can remove it from the sight. Use a heavy gauge wire though. Its always easier to file it lower if needed. Tim

Round or octagon barrel? 26”? I have an octagon barrel rifle of very similar vintage in 38-55, can measure it this evening.
