I acquired this elevator with a Winchester sporting rear sight.  It is unlike any other Winchester elevators I have seen before.  I know these changed over the years.  I believe this elevator is not Winchester, but who made it?

Other gun manufacturers such as Marlin, Remington and Savage made their own variations of sporting rear sights and had their own elevators.  Remington was known for having a fish hook style elevator.

One photo of the mystery elevator alone, and another photo of it with two Winchester style elevators.  The thumbprint type has the patent dates.

Does anyone recognize the mystery elevator?

Bill,

It looks similar to the elevators used by Marlin.

I thought that the early 1873 and 1876 rifles had that type of elevator.  The extended end allowed for easy height adjustment using your fingernail.  RDB

Here is a picture of a Winchester elevator and a Marlin.  The Colt looks closer to a Marlin.Winchester-and-Marlin-Elevators.jpgImage Enlarger
