Can someone tell me what front and rear open sights were on a model 71?  I Ned to replace both with originals if possible?

Thanks for the reply Bert, I didn’t read it at the time, but I bought a nice 71 a couple days ago and I now read it.  It had the Lyman 56 on the rear and an altered front sight that was filed down for some reason.  I want to bring it back original with the open rear sight.  Are the Lyman 31w and the 22k still available or can some of those be had on the used market?  If you want information on this 71 for your survey let me know what you need!

I purchased a 22 k from Homestead Parts, but they were out of the #1 elevator, they had the #2 and #3, any idea where I can get the right elevator?  I need to find a Lyman 31w gold bead front sight, so the front sights come in different heights?

Thanks

Hello Jeff,

Diligent searching on the internet will eventually pan out for you.

For the survey, the serial number and variation should be sufficient.

Jeff

Per my research, it is a 1949 production rifle.  The Lyman No. 56W is most likely original as it was the standard rear sight in the immediate post-WW II years.  Throughout the entire production run, the Lyman 31W was used, and they are all the same height (the application code “W” is what specified the height).
