Is anyone familiar with this sight maker. L J Smith? A friend was offered the sight and since I’m from Michigan thought I may know something about it. Looks to be for a Sharps or target type rifle. These are all the pictures he sent, not the greatest. Any assistance would be appreciated. Regards CC.
I have a book of “Michigan Gunsmiths the 18th through the early 20th Centuries” that lists a Loren Smith in Ionia County from the late 1850’s to at least 1872.
It’s the only Smith that fits the bill in this reference. I’m guessing E.R. MICH. might stand for Eaton Rapids.
