I recently purchased a model 94, serial number 1298492. It has a tang sight on it labeled Lyman Middlefield Conn. USA. Is this tang sight period correct to the gun? Or did someone recently put this on? It looks very old if that matters. Also, the gun dates 1942 when I look it up but the dealer thought 46-47. Thank for the help.

Model 94 s/n 1298492 was manufactured in September 1941 per the original factory records. The Lyman tang sight on it is period correct. Which caliber is it?

Is it possible the tang sight came with it from the factory? Or did someone install it after purchase? Did they drill and tap the extra screw for the sight?

Yes, it is possible that Winchester installed it, but the odds are much greater that it was installed after the fact. Winchester drilled & tapped the Model 94 & 64 upper tangs for mounting a peep sight until mid June 1942.
