OfflineMy guess is they started stamping the top of the tangs in the 1910s-1920s. That’s just my guess. I’d be happy to learn more about it also.
As far as what’s appropriate on what rifle, I’d determine when they started making the specific style of sight and then check the application code. I don’t think the:
L Y M A N
MIDDLEFIELD
CONN U.S.A.
on the base has anything to do with what gun the sight would be appropriate for other than the time period. The sights I collected are earlier ones that are unmarked on the top of the base so I just haven’t spent a lot of time learning about this specific subject.
