I have seen a few for sale lately that have stamped on the base, the following:

L Y M A N

MIDDLEFIELD

CONN  U.S.A.

When was this used on these sights and for what rifles would this be appropriate?

My guess is they started stamping the top of the tangs in the 1910s-1920s.  That’s just my guess.  I’d be happy to learn more about it also.

As far as what’s appropriate on what rifle, I’d determine when they started making the specific style of sight and then check the application code.  I don’t think the:

L Y M A N

MIDDLEFIELD

CONN  U.S.A.

on the base has anything to do with what gun the sight would be appropriate for other than the time period.  The sights I collected are earlier ones that are unmarked on the top of the base so I just haven’t spent a lot of time learning about this specific subject.

Anyone know when the MIDDLEFIELD CONN U.S.A. was omitted and stamped Lyman only on top of the base. This 2A D below is on my 1926 model 53.

I’d like to know that myself.  Have always assumed it was after WWII, when so many other things changed.
