I recently purchased a vintage Lyman tang sight to put on one of my 1885s. According to data I’d seen, it should fit.

The mounting holes only measure 1.7+/- inches but the mounting holes are 2.25. Some research on the web states that 94s and 92s will take this sight as well but my 92s and 94s measure the same 2.5″.

What am I missing?

The Lyman WS application code is for the models 1890, 1906, 62, and 62A.  You need the S code for the model 1885.

It doesn’t line up with the 1890 or 1906 as well.

I’m guessing it’ll have to be drilled and tapped?

It looks like the sight is coded SN, that would be for a Savage model 1919 22 NRA. The Winchester models 85,86,92,95 all have the same hole spacing differing in stem height and placement on base, the 85 and 86 stems are a little further back. You need a S code

I wouldn’t D/T a M1885 Rifle, and ruin it’s collector value, no matter what condition it’s in! IMHO!

Instead, get the right Tang Sight with the “S”, code and sell the one you have to offset you’re cash out lay! Smile

Yea, I wasn’t about to do that.

Got it on Ebay already.

Thanks
