I always figured the elevators with the ridges are for express caliber rifles but this 73 had one installed at some point in its life.

I am still confused which way you are going? If a rifle, 50 Cal, with octagon 26″ barrel, full mag and rifle butt or the shorter round barrel, half mag and shotgun butt?
Chuck, I’m going with the original configuration, Rifle, Express, 22” Round, 1/2 Magazine, Shutgun Butt. That’s how it started life, then changed. I’ll put it back that way.
My search has come up zero with round barrel forearm caps, but I’ll keep looking. The barrel is ordered. It’s 4-6 weeks for delivery so I have some time.
I have some info for the date of your gun. If you’ll give me the full serial number, I’ll see if I get a hit with the research material I have. You can send as a private email if you want.
