1917 vintage Model 1894 rifle in .25-35 WCF with a Lyman #5 front sight and Lyman #1 tang sight (flip-up aperture). Rear barrel dovetail is blanked. Does anyone know if these sights were available as factory options during this time or were they likely added later? I’m thinking that the Lyman #1 tang sight might be from an earlier timeframe before they moved on to the threaded aperture design.
Thanks,
Gus
Gus,
The odds are very high that the Lyman sights were installed by a past owner. If Winchester had installed (special order) a Lyman tang sight, it would have been a No. 1A (or a No. 2A) versus the older No. 1 that is currently on your rifle. The 1A and 2A tang sights superseded the No. 1 and No. 2 sights approximately 10-years before your rifle was manufactured. What is the serial number on this rifle?

I do not (yet) have that s/n documented in the survey. Can you please provide the details (or pictures) of the complete configuration.
Per the PR records, early May 1917.

Bert,I submitted the info under the 1894 Research Survey page a few days ago. It’s on page 3 of the thread. I’ll send some photos shortly for your reference.
Thanks,
Gus
Thanks… I must have missed seeing it, but will go find it now.
