Good afternoon all. I have a model 1892 SRC manufacturers in 1914. I have not seen the sights on carbine in any pictures of the 1892. Are the sights shown below original to the model? The front sight is soldered to the barrel while the rear sight is folding and mounted into dovetail in barrel.

Second question is the carbine currently has a Williams receiver sight installed. If I want to remove does anyone make plug screws to plug holes in receiver once receiver sight is removed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

John

Those are positively not factory original sights on a Model 1892 SRC.

The plug screws are available through a number of different sources.  Winchester used them on nearly all of the Model 64 rifles, all Model 94 Carbines after the year 1952, and on the Model 71 rifles after WW II.

Thanks Bert. Not the news I wanted to hear but it is what I suspected. Carbine is a good shooter though so not a total loss. Thanks for the advice on the plug screws also.

John,

You can pretty plainly see the linear loss of bluing on the top of the barrel where an original carbine leaf sight was located.  Can I get the serial number of your rifle so that I can add it into my research survey of the 1892’s?
