Hey Bert,
I purchased a Winchester Model 97 Takedown, 16 gauge 2 3/4 Cham. It’s in pretty good condition. I wanted to attach pictures but couldn’t figure it out. The Number on the bottom has a “D” and below that says 288382. On the top of the barrel by the receiver it has a P with a circle around it and what looks like an R with a circle around it. I could email pictures if you have an email. It has a pistol grip. The end of the barrel to the sight is 1/2”. The end of the barrel to the receiver is 27 1/4” I believe. I’m just curious on your thoughts about what it exactly is and the value? I bought it for $300.
Thanks,
Sean
Sean,
The barrel is a mail order replacement. The serial number tells me that the receiver was manufactured the year 1905. Winchester did not begin marking the chamber length on the 16-ga barrels until early 1931. The “P” in a circle is the mail order proof marking. At $300, you paid top dollar for it.
