OfflineTo conclude, I ordered a 44″ Boyt “Alaskan” series padded waxed canvas shotgun case. I was a little concerned the case would be too small for a side by side double since it is fairly narrow in width and has a reduced “pocket” at the front. My 12 gauge 21 Skeet Gun has 26″ barrels and a pistol grip.
Turns out the case is a close but not tight fit. The length is enough to zip closed around my gun and doesn’t permit sliding back and forth. If the barrels were 28″ the case would be too short
The barrels slide into the front pocket most easily if the gun is laid into the case “upside down” with the barrel rib and stock comb facing the spine of the case.
The materials and workmanship of this case appear to be top shelf. I wouldn’t put my gun in this case in a pickup bed to bounce around or in the trunk of a car with other guns piled on top of it. It’s padded but not meant to take a hard penetrating blow. Pelican and others make expensive, bulletproof hard cases for that environment but that isn’t what I needed.

OnlineSounds like an optimal fit. I wouldn’t want it to move around in the case as that may cause finish wear on longer trips. I use the same heavy socks I store my shotguns in the safe for transport to the club but may need to give the Boyt case consideration. I have a generic Cabela’s takedown hardcase but seldom use it. My big double rifle cases are too heavy for regular use. I’m looking forward to seeing your new case, Bill.

OfflineYesterday we missed the best day I’ve seen for Skeet. Maybe, if we get another mild Winter day during the week, I’ll write Jeremy a permission slip or he can claim abduction by aliens — he wouldn’t be too far off…

I noticed that in spite of being very busy and distracted. Jeremy is a dedicated employee but we need to help him understand the value of time off. We know the paperwork monster will attack when he returns but I suspect that happens most days anyway. I’ve had to do more paperwork than I like this week, I think I need a range trip.

OfflineWithout doubt. Let’s watch the weather. This Skeet Gun is complaining bitterly.

I had to put a blanket on the safe so my Skeet gun wouldn’t keep me awake at night. Not working very well, will need to try a more direct approach. A bit windy today so I dabbled in the room where the magic happens. Gonna retire to the office for awhile so we can take advantage of any nice weather this weekend.
