A friend of mine asked me if Winchester ever made a Model 21 in 3 1/2” Magnum.  I told him that I was not aware that they did.  If this was so, it would have been made in the later years of the Custom Model 21 production.  If anyone has any knowledge of this I would be interested in hearing from you.

I’ve not ever encountered one, nor seen reference to even one being made by Winchester. Important to remember the 3 1/2 has only been around since 1988. Far more likely the chambers have been extended. The 21 is a strong shotgun. That said I would not touch it except at a giveaway price.

I have never seen one as well.  If Winchester made one it would of been during the last few years of the Model 21 Custom shop run.  All 21s have letters. So, if you had access to the records you would be able to find out.  I have the Winchester 21 book, but it was printed before the 3 1/2” Magnum was introduced.

The price would have to be really right, and the work be at Briley level quality to interest me in such a gun. It’s important to remember that choking is a system that begins at the chamber. Only extending the chambers by 1/2″ would reduce or eliminate the forcing cones.

Many of todays shotguns feature long forcing cones, not the case at all for older guns. That 1/2″ would likely be the bulk of the forcing cone length. I’m certain the work can be done well and right. Was it done right or was it Bubba and a reamer? It is Bubba that will take a hacksaw to a Winchester 21.
