New to the group but a member suggested I try this group to help me identify a Winchester shotgun. I have the opportunity to purchase a Winchester model 12 28g skeet and I’m trying to figure out if it’s a true factory gun and if so how much its worth so I don’t over pay. All help is appreciated!
Had several pictures ready to post in the original comment but new to forums and having trouble figuring out how to attach photos from my phone to post. It just shows pops a tab that says source, image description, and dimensions but doesn’t let me go pick the pictures. Sorry I’m a newb to this
Samuel,
As a Guest on the WACA website, you do not have the requisite access to post pictures directly in your post. What you can do, is to load your pictures on a photo hosting website, then post the URL (website address) to them here on the WACA website.

Well I’m still trying to figure out how to get pics on here but think I’m getting closer in the mean time got a couple questions that May can help figure it out without pics. One of the only real things I’m worried about is that it has skeet under the receiver serial number but on the barrel it just says skeet choke. I’ve seen by reading online that ws1 and ws2 was marked on them. Were there any skeet guns that were ever just choke skeet from the factory. I believe it’s a 1940 gun according to seller with serial number 850102

January 1940 to get you a little closer on the date of manufacture. In regards to the “SKEET” choke marking on the barrel, I do not know when (or if) Winchester would have used that marking on a Model 12. All of the Skeet Guns I have encountered were marked “WS1” or “WS2”, but with that stated, I have not looked a more than a handful of factory Skeet Guns in my travels. I am by no means an “expert” concerning the Model 12.

Is there anyone that you can direct me towards or any readings that would tell me if they ever just marked some with skeet instead of the ws1 or ws2? Overall the gun looks like it matches and is in about 60-70% condition. The only thing that is really concerning me is if the barrel matches the receiver and is a true 28g. The skeet choking somewhat concerns me cause like you’ve said in my few online readings most are choked ws1 or ws2. I wish I could get pictures to you so you could better tell or even someone else on the page that might be more knowledgeable on model 12’s.
