The 28ga skeet # 1352064 with case looks ok albeit the wood is messed with. Given the crap this seller is peddling, you’d want to look over that gun very carefully. The 42 with box # 130214 is fake as a 4 dollar bill.
Austin is this the one you are talking about?

if so, can you help educate those of us who lack your knowledge to know what you are seeing that let you know this is fake? Thanks just trying to learn!
Winchester never marked a gun “DELUXE” nor did they ever use that term.
Looking at that gun and the box, it looks very much like the fake crap that SDOG was peddling a few years ago.

So are you saying a that all the 42’s that are marked DELUXE are fake. That would put a new spin on the 42 box and Ned Schwing and Don. I do know that some of the 42’s shown were build up for the book. But I always thought it was agreed that few where marked DELUXE.

I see the sale pending is still up for the 28 gauge gun.Seems that sale pending sign ,has been up for quite awhile.:)
I’m always scared of sellers who only want check or money orders. With sellers passing the cc cost on to the buyers, the only reason I think someone wouldnt accept credit cards is they are dishonest and don’t want the buyer to have a recourse when they discover the fraud when they get their firearm. With few exceptions, I wont buy from sellers who won’t take a credit card. Is it a coinincidence folks have concerns about the integrity of this listing and the seller wants a check or money order. I don’t think so. I know some sellers may argue the client can lie and try and charge back but that is true for any retailer and you can also easily use Gun Tab and cut that risk to 3 days. I have lots of respect for the sellers who use Gun Tab and don’t get paid until after the 3 day review. That to me says they are honest folk! Just my 2 cents!

Anyone can sign up for PayPal, Gun Tab or Square and be taking credit cards in 15 minutes. Pan handlers on the side of the road can take an electronic payment but a guy who wants me to pay 3k for a rifle can’t? Everyone today has an easy way to take 💳 credit cards. In the past they may not have chosen to because of the cost but again now that everyone charges the buyer for using a credit card, I again question if someone is legit why you wouldn’t take a Credit Card?

OfflineI might sell off a couple of guns a year, or none. I sell what the magic has leaked out of. I have an 03 license, useful only when buying.
There are a number of very legitimate gun owners on Gunbroker, hobbyists like me, who will only accept United States Postal Money Orders.
I do that because those instruments are exceedingly hard to forge and are accepted for immediate credit on deposit by my bank.
Checks, cashiers checks, and bank money orders are all fairly easy to forge, can be stopped by a stop order in some jurisdictions, and even if given immediate provisional credit by the depository bank, are not safe against a claim of forgery for up to several weeks.
That leaves PayPal, I suppose. I haven’t dealt with them as an occasional seller for many years. When I once did, I discovered they were resistant to turning loose of sale proceeds and wanted to keep them and act as my bank with my funds on deposit. I did not care to do that and didn’t use them past that one transaction. Perhaps all that has changed. I do not know.
You might be surprised at the number of old curmudgeons who occasionally sell on GB that don’t care what you think about their lack of business sophistication. They are, from experience, comfortable with Postal Money Orders because they’ve never been burned ny them.
You might also be surprised at the rather brutal terms that acceptors of credit card payments, through PayPal or otherwise, are required to agree to in the event of dispute or fraud. The purveyors of credit cards do not want to hear what the lying bastard did to your grandfather’s high condition 1886 before he sent it back. As far as the issuing bank is concerned, you are [urinating] in the soup and you WILL submit to arbitration in an office building 2,446 miles from your home. Or cough up the Buyer’s money plus a healthy fee for our trouble.
That is why I, myself, won’t take a card in payment for an occasional sale.

OnlineI pay cash or write checks for large transactions. With banks or financial institutions I use wire transfers. Banks and federal reserve want us to use plastic, the banks make money on plastic and the federal reserve and banks have to process cash and checks at face value. I think a seller who doesn’t take credit cards is a collector, one who takes plastic is a dealer. Yes, I’m a business owner. I have hundreds of transactions a week on plastic but for my hobby I prefer other means of payment. Moving to a cashless society is a foregone conclusion but it is a mistake.

OfflineI don’t mind any of the payment forms honestly and I prefer to skip the CC fees most of the time. As with any seller, the totality of reputation, reviews, and maybe a quick phone conversation can ease my fears 99% of the time.
Haven’t really been burned yet though <<fingers crossed>>, although I can tell which sellers have been burned before….their “rules” list in the sale listings are longer than my arm. Those are a hassle to deal with and I’ll skip them usually.

OfflineLately I’ve had to use Venmo and Zelle. Of course I don’t have either but my wife and daughter do. I do have Pay Pal linked to my credit card. I use it a lot when buying online. I believe Pay Pal doesn’t pay until the item has shipped. When we were in Europe two years ago it was hard to find cash even at the largest hotels. Our Government loves cards. They can then track everything you do.

This is no longer pending.
Just noticed it was listed again as of an hour ago…
I wonder if the prospective buyer read this thread?
Doubtful. There’s a lot of folks out there with too much money who elect to remain uneducated.
Must be something that prompted the buyer to back out.

Years back Pauline had something to say about the veracity of supposed Factory Work Orders stamped ‘Deluxe Wood’.
Pretty sure it was in reference to nib 22 rifles
Don’t believe I have the skills to find the post, but I’ll give it a try.
