Hi. I’m looking at a Winchester 1897 Riot. The receiver has the US and Flaming Bomb mark but there is no flaming bomb on the barrel. Is this normal or should there be a flaming bomb on the barrel? There is a WB cartouche as well. Serial number is . I’ll post some pictures below. Thanks for the help!

There are some WWII Model 97 riot guns that have both the U.S. and flaming bomb mark on the receiver. I have data on a couple with lower serial numbers than the subject gun. Another possibility is that this gun was originally a trench gun that has had its barrel replaced, however, in the case you would expect to find a sling swivel on the buttstock if the buttstock is original too the receiver.
