I have 3 of these currently that I bought on a whim about 8 years ago. Never gave them a thought until i recently moved and found them wrapped up and hidden in the back of a closet.

They all appear to be pre 68 because no L serial numbers.

NHPD number 43 serial 329286

NHPD number 61 serial 324334

NHPD number 151 serial 326380

Any thoughts as to value or collectibility?

Hi BigGuy72

You have serial 329286 – NHPD number 43, serial 324334 NHPD number 61, serial 326380 NHPD number 151, They were all made in early 1967.

I am editing this post as I see that the photos are there.  Please provide a photo of the ButtPlate/Recoil Pad, and Serial Numbers as proof.  I will post a letter for you giving more details later today.

This is my second Edit.  I have downloaded the photos and cleaned them up.   They have all been refurbished, and two have had new Bolts added- look at the Breeches – the top two have jewelled bolts, the bottom one is plain – please identify the three guns, as well as provide barrel address photos – one is enough if they are identical, otherwise three separate named photos.  I will wait for the photos before I reply.  End second edit but read on.

They should be all with 18 inch barrels, and no bayonet attachment.  I have a number of other RIOT guns within your serial numbers and no other models.

I have a chapter on these in my forthcoming book (Just search for keith Nix on Forum), and will add them to the database.

as well as the model 1200, I can also date the Models 1300, 1400, 1500, 2200 and 2400 shotguns.  The book also covers the Super X guns.

please send the following photos to [email protected] when you can: Overall Left and Right view, Serial Number (with the breech closer) and the underside of the receiver, Left Stock, Butt plate or recoil pad, Left receiver, Forearm and Barrel Address, close up Barrel Address (check both sides of the barrel in 1969), Front sight) any other sight – mid barrel or rear sight), Pistol Grip Cap, Left side of receiver, and  Right side of receiver (Breech closed). “

or you can private message me.

They seem to be in very good condition for retired PD riot guns. The ones I’m familiar with only came out of the cars for serious stuff, qualifications and maybe cleaning.

I guess I never thought about it like that. I always assumed the NH was for New Haven PD in Connecticut. I guess NH could stand for anything that fits. New Hampshire is an option, but I’m not sure there is a state PD that would stamp anything that way.

There are a few scuffs and nicks to be sure. Overall, they are in pretty good shape. Maybe the serious stuff was minimal.

The serious stuff isn’t the problem, it’s riding around in a patrol car 24/7 with people and equipment coming and going. Case, if it had one, is generally open to the mud and dirt and grit that find their way into a patrol car.

Taking a look at them, I don’t think any of them has been “refurbished”. Closer inspection shows what appears to be original parts and wear as one would expect. Number 61 has  3″ chamber, the other two are 2&3/4 chambers. Aside from that, they are all identical. I can’t seem to find any information on this pattern of checkering though. I’ve seen it in a few images, but most 1200s I see have a different pattern, or lack checkering on the stock or altogether. I guess maybe it has to do with the grade of firearm?
