I picked this up yesterday for two reasons. One, that I had never seen a vent rib this wide, and two, because it was so cheap !!! Here it is next to another Model 12 I have. Is this a modified barrel ? The interesting thing to me is th

I don’t think I have seen one of those since the mid 60’s. That appears to be a Herters “Gold Crown” Ventilated rib. They were 5/8″ wide and had a distinctive angled matting on each side. I believe the selling point was that it would completely block heat waves coming off the barrel.
