I have a Winchester model 12 riot gun in 12 gauge cylinder bore made in 1957 and stamped on the butt stock are the letters: RY EXP AG . I believe this stands for Railway Express Agency.
It was the firearm of a Texas Ranger. I bought it from his widow. Anyone have any idea on it’s worth?? It is about at 80% on the condition. He also carved his name on the stock.
I don’t have any info on the Railway Express Agency but here is a similarly marked Colt .38

Good eye, Jeff. In my LE career (and afterwards) I’ve dealt with railroad police. They were (and still are) recognized by statute (at least in Texas) as police officers even though they are employed by private companies. A unique and complicated situation. My most recent contact with the BNSF police isn’t much on history. Somewhere in my files is the contact info for a Texas Ranger weapons historian.
If the OP is still around I expect to see the ex-Ranger in April.
