My grandpa Turk had this shotgun, which I ended up with, my dad tells me he bought it for him in the mid 50’s.

It has a 28″ bbl, 2 3/4″ chamber, a date of manufacture would be appreciated.

Winchester only made the Model 25 for a few years — from 1949 to 1954.

Mike,

The listed (documented) production total for the Model 25 was 87,937. The first batch were sent to the warehouse in March, 1949, and it was discontinued in December 1954. I suspect that your Model 25 was manufactured in late 1953. It should have a 2-digit year number stamped on the bottom of the barrel near the receiver that will tell you when the barrel was manufactured and provide a clue as to when the gun was assembled.

It was hidden deep, but I think I found an angle to get a peek at the top portion of a “5” and just the peak of the top of a “4”.
