I recently picked up another 1897. My other one is a Take Down E series 16 ga. This new purchase is a C series #82444 Full Choke. I’ve seen some other posts where a 6 digit C series had a June 1900 date. Is a 5 digit much older? The site I used said it was a circa 1900.

I think it has an incorrect slide handle. Comparatively huge compared to the grooved style. It doesn’t look like it belongs on this gun.

Any input on both would be very helpful. (Sorry, can’t figure out how to upload a pic)

Cory,

Model 1897 s/n 82444 was manufactured in September 1899.

Send the pictures to me via email – [email protected]

Thanks for the information Bert.

An email with the pics has been sent.

I’m one for having tings as original as possible, so I’ll be looking for the grooved slide handle (3 screw).

Those are almost impossible to find (original) as it was the weak (most often found broken) piece on the early production Model 1897 shotguns.  All too often they cracked right at the escutcheon screws.
