Here is the 1886 serial 754
Have a few questions, Inherited a large collection that hasn’t been out of safes for 50 yrs, and is not for sale. I will be handing down to my kids. Trying to get more knowledge, sorry in advance for silly questions.

Will update photos this evening. Sorry I consolidated post into Winchester shot guns.

1st.

Model 1886- Serial 28334, produced 1888.  Looking for some assistance on Caliber, either barrel has been shortened, or not marked from factory. Any way to get production specs?

2nd.

Rarity of early serial numbers.

Model 1895  .30 Cal Serial 0230 produced 1896′

Model 1886 45-70 Serial 754 produced 1886′

Model 1887 10 Gauge Serial 23137- Not three digit but early production run and being a 10 gauge. Produced 1888′

Thank you for all your help in advance.

For your Model 1886 s/n 28334, the Cody Firearms Museum (CFM) records office can provide the details for a modest fee.

For the Model 1895, I suspect that you missed a digit on the serial number.  Winchester did not ever use a leading “0” digit.

A relatively high 3-digit serial number is not “rare” per se.  Single digit serial numbers are rare, just 9 of them were made.  2-digit numbers are uncommon (a total of 90 of them made).  For the 3-digit guns, a total of 900 were made.

Winchester introduced the 10-Ga variant of the Model 1887 at serial number 22153 in early January 1889.  Your gun was manufactured in April of 1889
