Hello everyone,
I have an 1887 shotgun in 12 gauge with a 30 inch barrel manufactured in 1892. I have shot this shotgun with brass shells and enjoy it very much, however I’m not sure if the finish is original or if it’s been reblued at some point. Everything has turned a pleasant patina and the internal action has lots of original case colors. Also pretty sure it has a non factory pad installed on the stock. Even if it’s been reblued it’s still fun to shoot, let me know your thoughts! Ps this is my first time uploading images here so let me know if they work.

Hello Dan,
Your picture(s) did not post. If you are unable to post teh pictures, send them to me via email.
The Model 1887 was not factory blued. The receiver frame and lever were case color finished as manufactured by Winchester.

Fading to a dull or mottled grey is the usual (& by no means unpleasant) end result when a CC part is handled very much at all; so it hasn’t been re-blued. The pad is a different story: if it was original or even period it would by this time have turned rock-hard or crumbled away.
