Hello everyone,

I’m really hoping I can get some information on a 1897 that has been in the family for some time handed down and was recently came out for nostalgia and fired a few times

Really hoping to put a year on it if possible or any information but have one major problem. Gun has absolutely zero serial number or marks on it.

Gun has wear and matching aged patina

Sidebar says Winchester Over Model 1897. Does not have Trademark.

3 Screw For grip

20inch Barrel

only Mark on the Gun is a 12 clearly stamped into it. That’s it. It has Absolutely no Serial numbers on the bottom of the barrel and Nothing stamped on the Receiver. It by no means looks altered or filed

I can try to get pictures but I do not have the gun in my possession but has everyone curious now

Thank you in advance for anything

When you are able to get the pictures, send them to me via email.

Based on your description, it is either an early production “pre-C” or and early “C” series gun.

The specific factory roll marking on the barrel will allow me to ID the gun.

I’ve not seen nor heard of a Winchester pump shotgun with no serial numbers present at all. The location of the numbers makes removal quite easy, rebluing required of course. A gun with removed serial numbers can be an issue. Seek good legal advice.
