I spent some time in a large PD’s range vault quite a few years ago. Some departments store “obsolete” weapons and never dispose of them.

There was a contract made in Sept. 1943 for 200 Model 97 trench guns for the Detroit Police Dept. There may have been other contracts, but I am not aware of them. I’ve only seen a couple of these DPD marked trench guns over the years and neither had any martial markings. I know one had the plugged front sight hole same as found on the late made Model 97 trench guns for the military.
