I’m trying to learn more about a pretty nice Model 12. The wood is great as is the overall condition. It has a Cutts Compensator choke on it that looks like it is done right possibly factory. The barrel reads Model 12-12 GA 2 3/4 CHAM WS-1.
Thanks in advance.
This is my first post so I have not figured out the pictures yet but I know a nice one when I see it.
Unfortunately, the Cutts Compensator was installed after the fact, and in doing so, somebody ruined a relatively uncommon gun. When it left the Winchester factory, the barrel was made with Winchester Skeet-1 (WS-1) choked barrel.

Bert-
Is it safe to assume that in the unlikely event Winchester installed a compensator or adjustable choke they did not use a barrel with a choke indicated on the barrel?
OP-
I’m betting that would make a pretty sweet skeet gun, how does it shoot?
Mike
Mike,
Yes, it is safe to assume that Winchester used unmarked barrels for the guns that they installed an adjustable choke on. If you find a Model 12 with a choke marked on the barrel, it should not have an external choke device violating the end of the barrel.

What would you value this one at just the way it is?

Without seeing the gun, it is nearly impossible to put a price tag on it. You need to provide some good pictures of it.

Based on what I am seeing, it has very little (if any) value in the collector market. The aftermarket recoil pad is in poor condition, and the butt stock was most likely cut-down to install it. The barrel has definitely been altered (shortened) to install the aftermarket Cutts Compensator. Like I mentioned before, somebody did a very bad disservice to that gun when they altered it. As a “shooter” grade gun, it is worth maybe $400.
