OfflineBased on the “.617” marking, I will assume that it is a 20-ga barrel. The British proofing facilities typically marked the bore diameter on the barrels that went through their proof house. Therefore, it appears that the markings originated in England.

My understanding is that it means the 20 gauge barrel was back-bored to .671″ by Wiliam J. Nettler in 1974
You might want to double check that… the nominal bore diameter of 20 gauge bore is .617 which is precisely what is marked on the barrel of the subject gun.
